techcruch rocks

TechCrunch is fast becoming one of my favorite blogs. I saw two interesting articles about acquisitions. Reddit was bought by Conde Nast, and digg is in talks with news corp.

digg

digg is knocking slashdot off the totem pole. It's similar to slashdot except that there are no editors, the stories are choosen democratically by the users.

Project management

I recently was turned onto a cool online project management program called basecamp. My only reservation is that the data is hosted by another company and you have no control over it(I don't see an easy way to export your data either), but it's very well written and works far better than excel.

bug me not

Bug me not is a cool web site where you can get a user/password to avoid the hassle of free online registrations. There is also a firefox plugin.

xmethods.net

here is a site that list free web services. xmethods.net. Oracle JDeveloper has a wizzard where you put in the url (uri?) and it gives you a list of all the available methods. then you are able to call those methods in your code like they were local methods and the wizzard has written code that takes care of all the underlying message and communications protocols (xml and http). It's similar to RMI or CORBA or any other remote procedure call.
